This weekend we went on a hike in Wawayanda State Park. We completed about 7.5 miles IN THE SNOW! What a great way to welcome the spring. :(
Here are a few pictures. ust a reminder that the Boy Scout Spaghetti Dinner will be held on Saturday, April 18th at the American Legion. The seatings will be at 4:30 and 6:30 pm. Scouts will be selling tickets to adults for $8 and children for $4. If you have not picked up tickets to sell or need additional tickets, Diane Verhasselt.
There will also be a tricky tray and 50/50 raffle at the dinner. If your scout would like to share in the proceeds of the tricky tray raffle, then their family needs to submit a tricky tray basket for the raffle. I have letters available to bring to local business soliciting for either a item for the raffle or a placemat ad. I will be covering the businesses on Rochelle Ave. Please contact me so that I know what area you would like to cover, All scout families need to get involved with this-----it is for the Boy Scouts!! Allowing for many short breaks and a period for lunch, total time on trail should be 7 hours. 3:30 PM - Finish Hike at DWG 3:45 PM - Adults go back to 17A for Cars 4:30 PM - Adults return from 17A with Cars 5:00 PM - Pizza for dinner nearby 6:30 PM - Return to Rochelle Park 7:15 PM - Arrive at Scout Building Dress · Wool Socks · Hiking pants - No Sweat Pants. The hike will have several steep climbs that may be challenging for some. Only boys who are in good physical condition and have previously completed a 5+ mile hike should consider this hike. Improper physical or mental preparation could lead to injury or illness while hiking. Preparation: · Begin physical preparation now: At least three times per week, walk a mile and do some combination of squats, pushups, situps, and jumping jacks. · Gear Inspection: all boy should present their gear at the troop meeting before the hike. · Sleep: each particpant should aim for 8-9 hours of sleep for 5 nights before the hike · The body is 80% water and this level must be maintained. Water is essential for maintaining healthy body functions All participatnts should begin pre-hydrating 3 days before the hike. Pre-hydrating consists of 3 to 4 quarts of water per day. · All participants should clip their toenails and wash their feet with rubbing alcohal the night before the hike · Breakfast: Each participant should rise early and eat a healthy breakfast consisting of protein and vegetables the day of the hike Recently posted on CampingJay.com
