Hello everyone,
The theme for the month is Communications. "Every human is constantly communicating through speech, reading, body language, even a raised eyebrow. We have many other means of sending and receiving messages, too - the telephone, television, radio, photographs and drawings, computers, recorded tapes, and compact discs. This month Scouts can explore some of the older means of communication such as Morse code, flags, and sign language." For more on the recommended troop program features view this page: http://meritbadge.org/wiki/images/d/d2/Troop_Program_Features_-_Communications.pdf Tonight we plan on asking each boy to tie a knot before entering. We will keep score of the number of boys who can tie the Bowline knot. For an animated demonstration of how to tie this knot check out this page: http://www.animatedknots.com/bowline/ It will probably take about 15 minutes to learn. Considering there is no school today it might be something they can spend a little time on. Check the calendar every week. Here are some events that are coming up: 2/16 Next pancake breakfast Ryan Scully, Kacper, Christian Fuchs 2/17 Committee meeting for ranking up. You must meet with the Scoutmaster before this date. Contact Mr. Buyck for a Friday meeting (after school) before the next committee meeting. Only three boys can rank up at the committee meetings. 2/24 Troop meeting prior to Camp Turrell trip 2/22 Cub Scouts Blue & Gold Dinner 2/27 Packing and Shopping for Camp Turrell Trip. Attendance is required by all attending this trip. 2/28 - 3/2 Turrell Trip Did You Know? - In order to attend a camping trip you must not only attend the required trip meetings before (set up) and after (cleaning), but you must maintain a good record of attendance for the regular troop meetings as well? Scouts best achieve the aims of Scouting (character development, citizenship training, and personal and mental fitness) when they participate in meetings, outings, and service projects, and hold positions of responsibility. Many of the skills that are required for the trip are practiced at these meetings, and a lot of discussion goes on for fun things like hikes and the SNIPE hunt! Of course, we understand if there are conflicts but a reasonable attempt should be made. Comments are closed.
